creator commentary:// Another present for my friend Leija.  We both like the movie and the directors cut was coming out soon so I did this up.  I actually took this piece to the SanDiego Comicon in hopes of having the director sign and personalize it for her but I never found him.  I did however find James Duvall, who seemed impressed and was happy to autograph it with a little something extra.  Thanks James!  Here are some other sketches and ideas I was playing with before settling on the final design.  sketch0 / sketch1 / sketch2 / sketch3 / sketch4.  Overall I'm pleased with how this turned out.  Thanks to my friend Mike who pointed me in the right direction with the ink wash.   creator commentary:// Sketch done of fellow gorillaz fan and artist Myra.

creator commentary:// I really had fun with this piece done for my friend Mike.    creator commentary:// This was a really good marker day...and a fun piece to do!  It's the main character from the Starman comicbook, which remains unread to me.  I was of course attracted to the fact that he wore goggles, so I thought I'd try and spruce 'em up a bit.

creator commentary:// Piece done as an homage to Jamie Hewlett's Gorillaz characters.  During the Gorillaz popularity, many kids decided to do self-portraits in the style...here's what I came up with.  The character colors were done by flat colorist extraordinaire, Shaughn!  The background was originally photographed by my half-twin sisters husband, James! creator commentary:// Just for fun.

creator commentary:// Piece done for fellow inker, Richard.  creator commentary:// An original characters piece done for friend and fellow creator, Khary.  It was pencilled and barely inked in San Diego, then barely finished while visiting NYC in 2001 before the SD comicon.  I'd promised to finish inking it if I ever saw it again.  I never did.  The costume design on the girl has a lot of funk which I enjoy, but perhaps a tad overdone?

creator commentary:// It was a yearly event for me to do up a nice little batgirl piece for friend and color talent, Rico.  This is the second batgirl, the first having been rushed during the SD2001 comicon not turning out so hot.  I opted for a sexier pose which is just a sexy way of saying an easier pose.  I really enjoy the face but still wonder what to do with her red hair...

creator commentary:// Commissioned by a friend, Hart, for Body Bags characters Mack & daughter Panda.  As you can tell, I really enjoy Léon: The Professional and decided as assassins to dress the characters in costumes inspired by the movie.  Panda's face and the marker rendering wasn't as great as could be, but lesson learned.  creator commentary:// Manji from Blade of the Immortal seemed like an appropriate character to try my hand with watercolors.  Besides the akward pose of the character, the marker rendering and the watercolor background came out decently.  Poor birdy.

creator commentary:// Piece done as payment for an awesome color job done by my friend, Kev, who is a big fan of the Metal Gear Solid game series from Konami.  This character stood out as one I'd like to interpret and here he is.  I really enjoyed the sketch and lost a lot of that action in the final version.  The marker job came out brilliantly (especially on the hands).

creator commentary:// A commission for an original character.  I forget who this belonged to as all they wanted was the scan.  Not too impressive but there are lots of spots I enjoy on her.  creator commentary:// A piece done for a comicon friend, who each year I disappoint more and more with such rushed and horrible concepts.  I apologize for the old and promise a new every year...Etienne!  One day my friend!

creator commentary:// This is one of the first "brown paper" sketches I started when first arriving in San Diego.  The Mucha hair is something that was being worked on previously only in sketches and this was the perfect opportunity to try it on a semi-finished piece.  Still being high on the new/second Utah Saints album, the words are taken directly from the tune "Techknowledgy."
