creator commentary:// Meant to explain a bit of why <i:e> started out as simple 1 page pieces, yet also hopefully raise a few more questions.  It's sad to see how formal the panel layout ended up because it's something I'd like to steer away from.  There was dialogue in the printed version but as I was unhappy with it to begin with I've deleted the captions.  The character Lauren or Lôren was introduced to show that there are others who can enter and share this <i:e> space but cannot be expected to understand it as the creator.  Overall I'm pleased with having finished this vignette.

creator commentary:// ???		creator commentary:// The World Trade Center as well as the Statue of Liberty were always great landmarks to me every time I would visit family in New York when I was young.  I was shocked and sad when I saw those buildings fall that day and I don't ever want to forget what they meant to me.  I held off completing this for fear of being lumped into the orgy of 'WTC tribute art' that followed the events. This is simply my thoughts a day or two following the event then completed 3 years later.  "i run the risk of trivializing the issues even as i draw attention to them"  - bono.  ps - thanks to my friend Mike for the beautiful watercolor work.  A pleasent surprise was seeing how the watercolor paper he worked on added to the ambience of the piece as if the grooves were ashes; nice touch!

creator commentary:// My friend Leija sent me some of her photography prints, one of which I took a particular liking too.  I believe the story goes that she was in Arizona and came across this cactus which looked like it had a massive bite taken right out of it.  She'd been warned her talents may cause random acts of inspiration.

creator commentary:// Jeremy Adolphson came back a year later with a request of an "afro-girl" and he's such a nice guy I had to give him a 1-UP from my previous card which I felt was subpar.  Basically I had just gotten the Juno Reactor - Live From Tokyo DVD and it brought back fond memories of the show I'd seen at the Justice League in SanFrancisco so I decided to use the album as inspiration and try my hand at a bit of watercolor.		creator commentary:// Jeremy Adolphson had asked me to do a 4X6 card for his collection in 2001.  In 2002 he asked again.

creator commentary:// Based on an earlier piece with the same title.  This remix version is the well placed ink drops after the poem which could serve as blood, sweat or...tears?  The poem I'd heard somewhere around the time I arrived in the U.S. in 1995.  The author is possibly John Powell.		creator commentary:// I was intrigued to make this flambouent counterpart more relaxed and less active. Looking back, perhaps I would have made more of a conscious decision to cut 1 or more of the ideas as I feel the piece is over-stimulated and cluttered.  It's more of a work through my random thoughts.  Why the toothpick AND the cig?

creator commentary:// To be truly free and rise above the mundane drudgery of a suffering world.  It takes very little to shed one layer of fear in self and other.  This is the first finalized <i:e> piece conceptualized on an island excursion having given much time to think about and process some of the events of my life in the past year.  The main image was inked, xeroxed then cut&pasted onto the markered background.  I was interested in this form of layering and collage design.
